We caught up with Nola for a virtual chat and to gain some exciting insight into a career in media spanning over 20 years.
How did you get in to media?
I studied Media and Communications at degree level at Trinity and All Saints in Leeds and as part of my course, I had to carry out two work placements. My first one took place at CIA (which is now, after various name changes…Wavemaker North!)
I recently spoke with my university and gave insight into my time and subsequent career journey in an alumni feature – https://www.leedstrinity.ac.uk/alumni/meet-our-alumni/nola-calladine.php.
What is a typical day like for you?
Tough question. There is no typical day. Before lockdown, it was lots of face to face client and team meetings. Now, it’s lots of ‘Teams, Zoom and Google Hangout’ client and team meetings.
I love the fact that every day is different; one minute I can be talking about gardening trends and the next pizza eating habits.
My day always starts early, I am a working mum who needs her headspace, so I always begin with a run or dog walk or more recently a Pilates class.
Once breakfast is sorted, school bags are packed, and lunches are made I head off to the office or to a client meeting and the fun begins!
At Wavemaker, we have the opportunity to work flexibly and I use this to ensure I can pick up my children from after school club and drop them at their various activities before logging back on to ensure everything is completed for the day.
What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry?
Be as inquisitive as possible, never stop asking questions and always ask for clarity.
Who would be your dream client?
Brooks – purely from a personal perspective. I love the brand, what they stand for and of course the running shoes are exceptional. Run Happy.
