Liam joined Wavemaker as an apprentice studying data analytics in late 2018 and now forms part of the Data & Analytics team as a Media Assistant. With a passion for cloud computing and innovation, Liam works across many clients in Wavemaker North to help drive efficiencies and insight using data.

How did you get in to media?

A few years ago, I was training to be a bar manager and ended up running a few very basic Facebook ad campaigns. Like the blind leading the blind and with no training on how to use Facebook’s ad platform, running the campaigns became the part of the job that I found least enjoyable but it helped to ignite an interest in using data in a proactive way. I was then lucky enough to be offered a role as an apprentice at Wavemaker North – my first job in media!

What is a typical day like for you?

I live in walking distance from the office, so I have the luxury of starting the day quite gently with a nice 15 minute or so walk.

After my first coffee, I will start processing any reports due that day but after that, no two days are the same. As we work across such a range of clients in the agency, the requests can be just as varied.

What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry?

There is such a range of roles and specialities available in media and marketing so take the time to find what excites you and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

Who would be your dream client?

Well I’m quite a big Everton FC fan so it would have to be them! Completely for personal reasons but a peak under the hood of how huge premier league football clubs run would be very interesting.

What is your proudest career moment to date?

Being part of a team that developed the Wavemaker UK first automated reporting suite by integrating systems in the google stack & 3rd party data sources.

Describe yourself in three words

Measured, attentive & calm

What do you like most about working at Wavemaker?

Even from my first day at wavemaker, I was met with a culture of supportive & friendly peers that encourage you to both better yourself and help others. The opportunities to develop both personal and professional skills are also incredible!

Rapid-Fire Questions

What’s your favourite meal?

It seems quite basic, but you can’t beat a good burger & chips – anybody that gets a chance should try honest burgers, they’re one of my new favourite places.

What’ your favourite film?

This can change depending on the situation, but I think I can quote most of Monty Python’s Life of Brian front to back so would have to be that one.

Dream dinner party guests?

Louis Theroux, David Bumble Lloyd & Dave Grohl… the stories would keep you entertained for days!

Cat or dog person?

100% cat but still love dogs!

What is your dream destination?

Probably in the hills of Sicily somewhere! I went on holiday there when I was around 16 and it was beautiful, can’t wait to go back!
