Staff Spotlight: Jacqueline Farrer, Account Director

In our March staff spotlight feature, we’ve sat down with Jacqueline Farrer to see what working within social media and influencer entails.

As Social Media and Influencers Account Director at Wavemaker North, Jacqueline has been with us for over two years and has eight years’ experience in the industry.

How did you get into marketing/media?

By accident really. I did journalism at university and got an online content writing job when I graduated. I fell into social media from there and as this area of marketing has developed, so has my job. Especially over the past few years as the influencer space has grown so rapidly. It’s a big part of what I do now, and one I really enjoy because its interesting and continually evolving.

What is a typical day like for you?

I never really have a set structure to my day as it varies so much. Because I work across both social media and influencers, I’m constantly switching between the two. One day I can be liaising with influencer suppliers or talent agents to secure creators for a new campaign, and the next I can be on a shoot helping our Studios team photograph food for a client’s social media content.

Generally though, my job involves a lot of campaign planning, on which I’ll work closely with our paid social and Studios teams, and then project manage these campaigns through to launch.

This is one of the things I enjoy about my job – no two days are ever the same.

What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and constantly learn and absorb as much knowledge as you can.

Who would be your dream client?

I’m passionate about music so the opportunity to work alongside and promote a music festival would be fantastic.

What is your proudest career moment to date?

Winning multiple awards for a Dr. Oetker social media campaign around The Great British Bake Off. It involved sharing live social content while the programme was on air each week to react in real-time to things happening in the show. 

It was really fast-paced, very different to anything we’d done before, and combined with our paid social and social listening strategies, delivered amazing results for the client. As a result, Dr. Oetker became an influential presence on social media during the run of the series.

What do you like most about working at Wavemaker?

The people. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming, it’s like a big family rather than an office sometimes. Everyone really pulls together and supports each other when they need to and that’s brilliant.
