Chris is a Business Director managing clients and their digital strategies at Wavemaker North. Chris works closely with all departments in Wavemaker, from the planning community and client leadership teams through to activation and analytics specialists to ensure that Wavemaker clients get the very best digital and data campaigns.

We chatted to Chris about what he’s learnt in the last 14 years of being in the Industry.

How did you get in to media?

After graduating from university with a degree in Business IT and Marketing and writing my dissertation on ‘The importance of online marketing’ I made the natural move into….Estate Agency! Yep, an odd choice but I eventually found my calling and began at a small digital marketing agency and my career went from there!

What is a typical day like for you?

I’m kept busy at home by my two children, so my day typically starts by walking my Labrador and getting the kids off to school. It’s a little easier now as my oldest is at secondary school but I really appreciate that I can walk my daughter to school.

The greatest part of my role is just how varied it is. I work across several clients which challenge me every day. One day I could be in London with clients or at meetings in our sea containers offices, the next I could be with awesome teammates working on a new business pitch in Manchester. I know it is said a lot, but I can honestly say that no two days for me are ever the same.

What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry?

Don’t feel you need to know what you want to do straight away. One thing that will become apparent is the different roles that are available within an agency and the best agencies will always encourage you to develop and grow which will open up many new opportunities you perhaps hadn’t considered.

Who would be your dream client?

Being a massive Liverpool fan, I’d love to work with them. Of course, it would require multiple trips to Anfield ?. However, should that not work out, I’d settle for any Football club.

What is your proudest career moment to date?

As an agency, we’ve won many awards and its such a great feeling being at the award ceremony to accept them. However, from a personal point of view, being promoted a few years ago to Business Director was something I’d worked so hard to achieve, so its definitely the standout moment for me.

Describe yourself in three words

Relaxed but thorough.

What do you like most about working at Wavemaker?

It’s the people that make Wavemaker. I’m lucky to have worked with some brilliant people over the last 7 years and what’s consistent with all of them is that we all believe we’re in it together. We’ve got a great leadership team that always offer support and Wavemaker are always committed to ensuring that everyone enjoys coming in to work every day. It genuinely is a great place to work.
